Stress Management

Stress Reduction Techniques   |   Cornerstone #1   |   Cornerstone #3   |   Cornerstone #4

cornerstone 2 - chill

Welcome to Stress Management, the second cornerstone of the SvelteLife Weight Loss System.  The negative effect of stress on your weight is well known, but we are just beginning to understand the many negative effects it has on your health in other ways.  I consider stress to be an epidemic, at least as worrisome as the obesity epidemic.  Everyone has it - some stress is self-imposed, and some is caused by others or other things.  Your future health and weight loss success depend on your ability to reduce the many sources of stress in your life.  That is why Stress Management is one of the four cornerstones of SvelteLife.

The opening line to SvelteLife:  The New Weight Loss Reality, reads:  “I have finally found the magic pill for weight loss:  The Chill Pill.”  For both weight loss and health in general, the Chill Pill is perhaps the most powerful medicine a doctor could ever prescribe to you.  The greatest antithesis of the Chill Pill is stress.

Stress makes you gain weight.  1) It drives us to eat (more and faster and less healthy), 2) it causes fatigue, making it difficult to exercise (which would otherwise reduce our stress), and 3) it causes insomnia, which contributes further to fatigue and stress (both physical and emotional), perpetuating the cycle.  Over the years, general stress levels have increased in concert with obesity levels.  When you gain weight, it causes even more stress, and the cycle never ends.

Stress is one of the High-Five TLC (five crucial Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes) and addressing it will help you reverse this destructive downward spiral, creating an upward spiral of health and happiness.  It is therefore crucial that you identify and address the sources of your stress head-on.
