5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, Informative and REALISTIC., March 21, 2008

by Kari Mitchell (Dallas, Tx. USA) -

Dr. Cluff's SvelteLife Program is totally realistic, and a practical approach; which provides great information for a healthy lifestyle.

The first section is (rightly) dedicated to reinforcing the fact that healthy weight loss, should be SLOW weight loss. Supported by reference, graphs and charts, and extremely interesting facts surrounding stomach size, what an actual pound of fat looks like, metabolic myths and realistic exercise expectations.

In this book, Dr. Cluff uses humor (including references and examples to pop culture, movies, and books) in a very casual way, allowing his personality to shine through, and his reader to feel more confident and comfortable with the idea of making a life change based on his suggestions.

Of course, this book covers diet medications, diet programs, and exercise recommendations - but it is the other information that I find particularly appealing and workable. What I found most useful with this book, is that it truly offers a healthy lifestyle change PROCESS, with goal-setting and HOW-TO for many SKILLS required to lead a healthy lifestyle.

This is more than a diet, this is a life change, and a continual learning process. The SvelteLife is packed with great useful information which can be applied NOW to make a change in your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally the weight loss book I have been searching for..., July 23, 2008
by B. Baxter -

This book is written by a Dr who has experienced the trials and pitfalls of weight loss himself and I felt this would be a good book for my wife. She has tried so many and failed. She has read his book 3 times now in the past year and a half and has lost 54 lbs and kept it off. She raves to all about how easy it is and has purchased it for her family and friends as gifts and they are now doing the same for others and it is spreading. It is the best gift to give, life, health, love, happiness, self esteem, confidence, etc. I have seen her grow so much it amazes me. I would recommend this to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally - a weight loss book that makes sense and isn't a killer!, January 18, 2008
by J. Silvey (Dallas, TX) -

Finally something that makes sense! This book makes you realize that losing weight doesn't have to be a "die hard - change everything in your life" exercise. Just take it one day at a time, don't burn yourself out and you will be amazed at the weight that falls off. Coming from a person that has been 90 lbs overweight for the last 10 years, I always would go 150% when dieting and drastically changing eating habits. I would lose, then eventually gain more than originally. UNTIL I read this book - I have lost 35 lbs in the last 3 mos. and I haven't felt like I have had to eat only healthy or kill myself at the gym. The 80/20 rule on food and exercise in this book makes so much sense. You eat healthy 80% but can play with the other 20% so you never feel deprived. Checking your "fuel Gauge" is a chapter that hits home. If you don't put it in your body, you don't need to take it out! This new way of looking at weight loss makes more sense than any of the many, many diet plans I have ever been on. It gives you the tools and it gives you a new way of looking at weight loss. IT WORKS!
