Proceed to EatSvelte™ Setup | Cornerstone #1 | Cornerstone #2 | Cornerstone #4
Welcome to EatSvelte™, the third cornerstone of the SvelteLife Weight Loss System. This plan is a whole new approach to eating right, which is the most important part of the weight loss equation (80% of weight loss is how you eat, 20% is exercise and metabolism). If you truly desire to achieve long-term success, you must EatSvelte™. SvelteLife teaches you how to eat, in addition to helping you learn what to eat. Instead of simply giving you the fish, we teach you to fish. This is very different from diets, which usually lay out detailed recipes, menus, or other food plans. No one can tell you what to eat for the rest of your life; even if they did, you wouldn't follow their advice forever. Only when you learn new eating behaviors and how to eat right on your own will you have long-term success.
Why diets are the problem, not the solution
We diet because we are desperate. But dieting is insane (remember the definition of insanity), and besides being a form of self-torture, leads to repeated eventual failure and disappointment (not to mention a thin pocketbook). No one can fault you for wanting overnight results, but the next time you see an advertisement for rapid, effortless weight loss, be smart – ignore it in the same way you would a get-rich-quick scheme. The reality is that without making liveable lifestyle changes, the weight lost with diets will always return.
There are at least four problems with the word diet (besides being a four-letter word):
Diets and other extreme measures shock the body into preservation mode and are simply too difficult to follow long-term. The changes they require and the weight loss pace they recommend are unsustainable for any significant period of time. For all these reasons and more, diets fail to work long-term.
EatSvelte™ is rational and sustainable, and consists of two basic components: Long-term quantity control, via the development of a skill called "Checking Your Fuel Gauge," and quality control, via "The ½:¼:¼ (Half-quarter-quarter) Rule." It also teaches healthy food and snacking choices, and helps you manage cravings. As you institute the principles found in EatSvelte™, you will begin to overcome many negative eating behaviors you may have.
By far the greatest factor that contributes to our unhealthy eating behaviors is something I call our “Drive to Eat” – an almost insatiable drive to eat more, eat more often, and eat less healthily, than one should. It could also be called the “Hunger Gene.” If you struggle with your weight, odds are that you know exactly what I mean. If you do not, this is likely a foreign concept; instead, it is likely you think that preventing obesity is all about self-discipline. The reality is that self-discipline plays only a limited role. You can learn more about what contributes to this drive to eat, in addition to strategies on how to temper this drive, by reading Chapter 5 of SvelteLife: The New Weight Loss Reality (also available in pdf format by subscribing to SvelteLife Online).
You will also learn that as you institute The SvelteLife Fitness Plan, making healthier eating choices will become easier, which makes your Fitness Plan a key ingredient in developing healthy eating behaviors.
